AUSTIN GERBER, JAKEB MITCHELL HONORED AS PLAYERS OF WEEK AS ROC CITY OPENS STRONG
TAMPA, Florida -- It's good to be a member of the Roc City Boom.
The usually high-scoring Rochester, N.Y. based team -- which played for the MASL 3 title last year -- didn't disappoint their fans in this past weekend's home opener, rolling past the Cleveland Samba 23-3.
Forward Austin Gruber was a big reason why. He scored five goals in the first half, and finished his eight-point night with six goals and two assists in the big win to earn Offensive Player of the Week recognition. Gerber had a limited debut in the league last year appearing in just four games for the Boom, but made his presence felt scoring nine goals and three assists.
Equally impressive was the net play of teammate Jakeb Mitchell who allowed just three goals to Cleveland, which has scored 22 goals themselves in their season opener. Mitchell played the vast majority of minutes in goal for Rochester in 2024-25, who as a team gave up the third fewest goals in the league. He was named as a First Teams All MASL 3 pick. On three different occasion, when he played at least a full half, he gave up just one goal during his time in net. He was a First Team All MASL 2 selection in 2023-24 for the Rochester Lancers, who advanced all the way to the league finals as well.
